Nope, Brett Ratner, famous Hollywood producer and director won’t be producing the 84th annual Academy Awards. Ratner made an anti-gay remark just recently and personally resigned from being the prestigious awards show’s producer.
It all started when the 42-year old producer and director who is famous for directing big Hollywood movies such as X-Men: The Last Stand, New York, I Love You, After The Sunset, Red Dragon and Rush Hour 1, 2 and 3, was asked during a press conference of his newly released action comedy, Tower Heist. He was asked whether he rehearses his actors before shooting a scene, to which he answered, “Rehearsing is for f*gs.”
Gay people has had enough of anti-gay remarks. People should really be careful of what comes out of their mouths. It is just like receiving unwanted and painful gay oral sex.
Like most big Hollywood personalities, Ratner issued a public apology. He even met with the representatives of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation before anouncing his resignation.
To a letter, given to CNN by his representative, Allan Mayer, Brett Ratner said, “Over the last few days, I’ve gotten a well-deserved earful from many of the people I admire most in this industry expressing their outrage and disappointment over the hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances. To them, and to everyone I’ve hurt and offended, I’d like to apologize publicly and unreservedly.”
GLAAD thinks Ratner was sincere in his desire to make a good thing out of the bad. Ratner aims to use this mishap as a means to begin lending his voice against anti-gay language in popular culture.
Ratner who is surrounded by a lot of gay people in the entertainment industry also said in his statement that it pains him deeply that he may have hurt his colleagues who are members of the LGBT community.
“Having love in your heart doesn’t count for much if what comes out of your mouth is ugly and bigoted,” Ratner said. “With this in mind, and to all those who understandably feel that apologies are not enough, please know that I will be taking real action over the coming weeks and months in an effort to do everything I can both professionally and personally to help stamp out the kind of thoughtless bigotry I’ve so foolishly perpetuated.”
He said, “Being asked to help put on the Oscar show was the proudest moment of my career. But as painful as this may be for me, it would be worse if my association with the show were to be a distraction from the Academy and the high ideals it represents.”
Ratner’s latest film, Tower Heist made $24.2 million on its first weekend. It stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.
